Abyss is an alternate personality of Noriko Null, typically considered her “evil self”.

She was the main adversary of the “Abyss Saga” and “Road to Hell” storylines.

Biography

Noriko Null unwillingly created Abyss as a self-defense mechanism, by separating all the evil thoughts of mankind int a dedicated part of her brain. This gave birth to an alternate personality who called herself Abyss.

Abyss was able to take full control of Noriko’s body during the Artemis invasion, but Null was eventually able to remove her.
Abyss resided deep into Noriko’s psyche for years, occasionally resurfacing in moments of extreme stress.
Her two most notable attempts to take control were her absorbing all the power of Hell and her partecipation in the “Strongest Under The Heavens” tournament, where she killed Deimos.

As price for winning the tournament, Quantum wished for the death of Abyss but not that of Noriko; not only this completely deleted the alternate personality from her brain, but it prevents her from emerging again.
