Aquilia (\ˈækwɪlɪə\ IPA, Αqουηληα in Olympian) is the birthplace of the Aquilian race.
It was the setting for much of the “Rise of the eagle” storyline.
History
Aquilia was founded by Zeus in order to hide from Hera all his illegitimate chidren that inherited electrical powers; over time, the descendants were so many that they populated the planet and became the Aquilian race.
Zeus gave the planet to his sister Hestia to rule, which she did until her exile. Rhea petitioned her mother Gaea to limit the access to the planet to only herself and Zeus.
In the 20th century, Zeus decided to take a vacation and moved to Aquilia pretending to be a mortal.
When Vesta nearly died during the last stand against Ares, Rhea took her to Aquilia to recuperate; she was later rescued by the Vanguard, which discovered Zeus was hiding there.
Aquilia remains isolated from most of the Olympian Galaxy.
Population and technology
The planet is entirely populated by descendants of Zeus. Compared to much of the rest of the Galaxy the planet is relatively primitive; with every single Aquilian being able to generate electricity, there are no artificial power sources.
Government and society
Aquilia is a theocracy, ruled by a class of priestesses that venerate Hestia as a supreme goddess. Despite this, freedom of religion is protected (except during the rule of Rhea) and civil liberties are taken in high regard.
Being separated from the rest of the Galaxy, with the sole exception of occasional visitors that are then stranded on the planet, Aquilians still talk with a dialect akin to a very old-fashioned form of Olympian.
Aquilians have a very unique naming convention. Instead of normal first name and family name, each person has three names: the first identifies the order of birth, the second is the planet of birth, and the last one is the personal name. Vesta‘s name with this convention is “Prima Olympia Hestia”.
Kari Zel identified herself as “Prima Myridia Karizel”, misunderstanding the convention as it should have been “Prima Myridia Kari”.
Noriko Null would be “Prima Earth Noriko” (being the oldest child and from Earth), Quantum would be “Tertius Earth Maximilian” and Torn would be “Secondus Hell Torn”.
Flora and fauna
The Aquilians are not the only descendants of Zeus on the planet: several animal species, and even some trees, descend from Zeus directly.
There is a significant population of Aquilian eagles: they are much larger than Earth ones, they have white feathers, and have electrical powers just like the Aquilian themselves.
